TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF THE FOURTH JAZZ CONTEST - PALMA COMERCIAL
 
The Municipal Tourism Institute (IMTUR) of the City Council of Palma organises, for the fourth year in a row, the Jazz Contest Palma Comercial, an event aimed at the city’s diversification away from seasonal tourism by means of stimulating the retail sector and revitalising the city centre; at motivating the resident and the visitor in order to create a more lively city, especially on weekends and public holidays. 
  
1. REGISTRATION
 
All jazz bands or soloists performing any style of jazz are welcome to sign up to the 4th Jazz Contest Palma Comercial. The registration rules are set forth below:

1. Two music themes must be submitted on a demo CD with good sound quality. The music themes on the CD must be recorded in MP3 format.
 
2. The two themes recorded by the bands on the demo CD shall be performed at the final stage of the Contest.

The bands signing up to the contest may not change any of its members during this contest edition, unless such a change is justified and has been notified at least two days prior to the beginning of the final contest stage. Only one member of each band will be allowed to participate in another band.
 
The registration period is open until 10th November at the IMTUR head office (C/ Morey, nr. 8, 1st floor, 07001 Palma), Mondays to Fridays from 8:00 hrs until 20:00 hrs.
 
In order to sign up to the contest, please submit the documents detailed below: 
 
- Registration form
- An authorisation granting the IMTUR the right to use the pictures and the music themes with the purpose of promoting the Contest.
- A statement of authorship by the responsible author of the music recordings.
- A CD including:
– at least three recent pictures of the band
– a CV of the band
– two music themes in compliance with the above mentioned applicable requirements

2. SHORTLISTING
 
For the shortlisting stage, the president of the IMTUR will appoint a specialised jury that will be in charge of evaluating the demos.
 
Each member of the jury will score the demo CD of each band on a scale of 1 to 10. Depending from the evaluation and the quality of the bands, the jury will choose between 24 and 30 bands, i.e. those having obtained the best scores. to participate in the Contest.
 
To select the winner, 20% of the total score will come from votes of the audience right after the performances and 20% will be scored on-line via the website available to the public. The remaining 60% of the total score will be assigned by the jury, which will be made up by experts.
 
 
3. CONTEST
 
The bands having qualified for the contest will be spread out over several concerts that will be performed live. As far as possible, the organiser of the Contest will agree with the bands upon the date and order of performance.

The bands participating in the Contest will need to inform the organiser, within a period of time to be determined by it, about the specific technical and/or furniture requirements needed for their performance. For all auditions and performances, the musicians will need to bring along their own instruments, except for the drums and the piano.  
 
The performance time shall in no case exceed 40 minutes, during which the two themes recorded on the demo CD shall be performed. Should the performance of the two themes take less than the maximum scheduled performance time, the bands will be able to perform any additional themes they may consider convenient during the scheduled performance time, always in compliance with the contest requirements. 
 
The Contest winner and the finalists will be chosen by a jury appointed by the manager of the IMTUR, that may be made up of the members of the shortlisting jury. Each member of the jury will score each performance on a scale of 1 to 10 and these scores will be taken note of.
 
All decisions taken by both juries, during the shortlisting stage as well as during the Contest, are indisputable. They shall also have the authority to interpret these terms and conditions and fill any loophole in conformity with the purpose of the terms.    
 
 
4. PRIZES
 
The prizes are detailed below:
 
1st prize:
2,000 € (two thousand euros) in cash
Trip and stay, with expenses paid, to participate and perform 2 themes at the 19th Jazz Rally of Düsseldorf.
Duration of the Jazz Rally of Düsseldorf: From the 10th June 2011 until 12th June 2011
 
The expenses only refer to the flight and to the stay of the band members and their instruments.
Access to the concerts performed at the 19th Jazz Rally of Düsseldorf (VIP entrance pass).
A booking to perform at the Sant Sebastià Festival 2012 worth 1,700 € (one thousand seven hundred euros), before taxes, as a result of the collaboration between the IMTUR and the organising council.
 
 
A booking to perform at the International Jazz Festival in Getxo (July 2011) worth 1,000 € (one thousand euros), before taxes, with all travel and accommodation expenses and allowances paid for.
 
A booking to perform at the opening event of the next Jazz Contest 2012 worth 1,500 € (one thousand five hundred euros), before taxes.
 
 
2nd prize
A booking to perform at the Sant Sebastià Festival 2012 worth 1,700 € (one thousand seven hundred euros), before taxes, as a result of the collaboration between the IMTUR and the organising council.
 
A cash prize amounting to 2,000 € (two thousand euros) awarded by Jazz Voyeur Festival of Mallorca to participate at the 8th Jazz Voyeur Festival 2011. Any expenses related to travel, accommodation and allowances resulting from the participation at the Festival will be paid for by the winning band.
 
 
FINALISTS - Cash prize amounting to 1,500 € (one thousand five hundred euros).
All bands having passed the shortlisting phase will be awarded a prize of 1,500 € (one thousand five hundred euros).
 
BEST SOLOIST - Cash prize amounting to 1,000 € (one thousand euros).
The best soloist among all finalists.
The prize will be awarded upon the sole discretion of the jury.
 
BEST BAND OF THE BALEARIC ISLANDS – Cash prize amounting to 1,000 € (one thousand euros).
A booking to perform at the Sant Sebastià Festival 2012 worth 1,700 € (one thousand seven hundred euros) before taxes, as a result of the collaboration between the IMTUR and the organising council.
 
Represent Palma at the Sardinia Jazz Festival (November 2011) with all accommodation expenses and allowances paid for.
 
The prize award ceremony and the performance of each winning band worth 1,000 € (one thousand euros),before taxes, will be held on Saturday, 30th April 2011.
In this case, the organiser will pay for the travel and accommodation expenses.
 
 
 
All prizes will be subject to the applicable tax withholding according to the legislation in force.
 
In order to receive the prizes and cash awards for the performances, the bands will need to provide the IMTUR with the tax ID number and bank details of the person or entity they may have specifically appointed to collect these payments.
 
The submission of the entry form to participate at the Contest implies the acceptance of these terms and conditions.
